The place for the Indian cricket team’s coach is soon going to be vacant as soon as the ICC Champions Trophy concludes, and renowned names like Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody and Richard Pybus have already emerged as competitors for the coveted job.

Anil Kumble, who has done an excellent job as the coach in the last one year, will also contest to continue as the team’s coach for another year.

However, Ravi Shastri’s name has also started grabbing the limelight for he has the backing of Indian skipper Virat Kohli, says a Times of India report.

According to the report, it is emerging that before the team left for England on May 23 for the Champions Trophy, Kohli had mentioned to both Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman – two of the three-member cricket advisory committee (CAC) – to consider Shastri’s name for the coveted job.

But it’s now clear if Virat had discussed about considering Shastri’s candidature with Ganuly or not.

Since, Shastri didn’t apply for the job, therefore, technically, his candidature can’t be taken into consideration.

However, if the CAC deems it fit that Shastri is the answer for all the current impasse of the Indian team, he could be called.

The report cited sources saying that Committee of Administrators (CoA) has empowered the CAC to decide whether to call Shastri or not.

It is also explained that Kohli doesn’t have a veto power to decide on the new coach.

The interview process for India's new coach would begin either on Thursday evening after the India-Sri Lanka match or would be held from Friday onwards. Sources close to the CAC said that they would be meeting the applicants -- current coach Anil Kumble, Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody.

The committee could also be meeting Dodda Ganesh and Lalchand Rajput without shortlisting from the six applicants.
