The Supreme Court on Thursday appointed Justice DK Jain as the new ombudsman for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Justice Jain, who is a former Supreme Court Judge, will act as an ombudsman to resolve disputes. He is scheduled to take charge immediately.
A bench comprising Justices S A Bobde and A M Sapre said: "We are happy that by consent of the parties and the suggestions, the name of retired Justice D K Jain has been agreed to be appointed as the ombudsman in the BCCI. We accordingly appoint Justice (retired) D K Jain as first ombudsman in the BCCI."
He is also the first ombudsman under the new BCCI Constitution approved by the Supreme Court in August last year.
The appointment means that Justice Jain will now decide the quantum of punishments for India cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul over their inappropriate comments on a TV show.
