The bandwagon has begun, even though not with the kind of bang that everyone expected as Royal Challengers Bangalore surrendered tamely against the Chennai Super Kings in their own den during the opening match of the IPL 2019. The tournament now moves northwards with a doubleheader planned for today evening. While first, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens, later the Mumbai Indians (MI) will host the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the famed Wankhede.
Rohit Sharma's MI are one of the most successful sides in the history of the tournament but have always been slow starters. With the likes of Quinton de Kock, Evin Lewis, the Pandya brothers and sensational Jasprit Bumrah in their ranks, MI would love to start the IPL on a winning note.
DC on the other hand not only have changed their franchise name but now also boast a lot of Indian talent in the form of India players Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Ishant Sharma and Shreyas Iyer. They will look forward to their local mavericks to spring a surprise or two in Mumbai's own fort.
What to expect:
On paper, the MI side looks stronger due to a strong overseas presence though they are likely to miss Adam Milne and Lasith Malinga. However, DC are even with MI in their overall record with both teams winning 11 games against each other but they will need to come up with a strong batting performance to overcome Bumrah and Co.
