In what could be a lethal blow to Kolkata Knight Riders' campaign in the Indian Premier League 2019, star all-rounder Andre Russell seems to have injured his left shoulder after being hit by a bouncer during Wednesday's net session at the Eden Gardens ahead of their game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday.
Russell failed to negotiate a bouncer from net bowler Minad Manjrekar which went on to hit him on the neck. The big man from Jamaica immediately fell on the ground and was in immense pain.
The team physio soon attended Russell and applied ice pack, following which he walked out of the ground. Robin Uthappa and Carlos Braithwaite helped Russell off the field.
According to reports, Russell was taken to CMRI hospital for scans and the KKR management has ruled out the possibility of a major injury.
It is the same left shoulder where Russell was hit by a Harshal Patel delivery during KKR's match against Delhi Capitals at the Kotla.
Kolkata are scheduled to host the struggling RCB side at Eden on Friday.
Russell has been a star campaigner for KKR this season having scored 312 runs in seven innings at a strike-rate of 213.70.
KKR, who have slipped to sixth spot in the points table with four wins in eight matches, will look to end their three-game losing streak and put their hunt back on track.
