Dhoni has lauded Kohli's captaincy skills.

In cricket, handing down the torch from one captain to another requires trust and faith and the responsibilities was accorded to Virat Kohli after Mahendra Singh Dhoni stepped down as the Indian team captain in January 2017. The aggressive right-hand batsman was instilled with the role to lead the Men in Blue and since then, the Indian fans know what Kohli is capable off. (IPL 2018 FULL COVERAGE)

As time passes by, Dhoni has been a man of few words and on being asked about Kohli as a captain, Dhoni said that 'He's very good'.

Dhoni shared his opinion on the Team India and Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper at a promotional event and spoke about the responsibilities a captain encounters during their stint as a leader.

"I always felt a good captain is the one who understands the individuals. Because if you don't know a player's strength or weakness, you cannot give him the proper advice.

"I think it's important how good you are as a team and how good you are as an individual, who helps others to perform," Dhoni said.

On being asked whether he would prefer being a captain or a normal player in the team, Dhoni said that one has to first work their way up through the ranks.

"Being a normal player is much more important. You work through the ranks. It helps you understand the game, the problems that you may face as a player. Once you reach the top you would know what an individual would be feeling.

"As a player you also learn a lot from your leaders. Not only about how to conduct yourself but also about what not to do," Dhoni added.

Despite being known as a finisher or the keeper with the fastest hands, Dhoni has been known for his captaincy which has made him the legend that he is.

In the ongoing Indian Premier League, Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings to the playoffs with ease as the Yellow camp sits comfortably at the second spot on the table.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, have made an emphatic return in the league after starting their season poorly and have a chance to make it to the playoffs.

CSK currently face Delhi Daredevils on May 18 at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi whereas Kohli's RCB take on Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium at Jaipur.
