IPL 2018, DD vs KXIP Highlights
INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE (IPL) 2018 MATCH 22, DELHI DAREDEVILS vs KINGS XI PUNJAB: Hello and welcome to our live ipl cricket coverage of the match no. 22 of Indian Premier League 2018 between Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Shreyas Iyer holds the key for the hosts in the 144 chase, Punjab have kept the pressure on with consistent strikes. Earlier, Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to bowl first against Kings XI Punjab. After four defeats in their first five games of the tournament, the Gautam Gambhir-led Delhi is languishing at the bottom of the league table with just two points in their kitty. They have suffered back to back defeats in their last two matches and will be desperate to win their first game at home. Once again in this year's edition of the cash-rich league, Delhi are having a bad time. They started their IPL 2018 campaign after losing their first two games against KXIP and Rajasthan Royals. Delhi clinched their first win against Mumbai, thanks to a fine knock by foreign buy Jason Roy and Rishabh Pant. (CRICKET STREAMING - DD vs KXIP)On the other hand, Punjab are flying high with four wins in five games. In their last face-off with Delhi in the league, which was also their campaign opener, the Ravichandran Ashwin-led side had thrashed Delhi by six wickets. They later lost to RCB in their second match but came back strongly to register a hat-trick of wins against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). HIGHLIGHTS, DELHI DAREDEVILS vs KINGS XI PUNJAB, IPL 2018, MATCH 22 FROM DELHI
23.40 IST:
23.36 IST: OUT! Iyer departs! Heartbreak for the young man. He tries to clear long-off after going deep in his crease. Slaps it over extra cover and Finch out in the deep moves to his left and takes it comfortably. PUNJAB WIN BY 4 RUNS! Rajpoot 2/23, Mujeeb 2/25, Iyer 57
23.35 IST: FOUR! It's all going down the wire. Iyer picks up a boundary. This is superb. Short ball, Iyer walks down the track and pulls it fine past the diving short fine leg fielder for a boundary. 5 needed off the last ball. Biggie to win, a boundary means a Super Over. What do we have in store for us?
23.34 IST: FIFTY! SIX! 8th Indian Premier League fifty for Shreyas Iyer! He's keeping his side in the hunt here. It's short and flat, hammered downtown, over long off for a maximum. 11 off 4 needed.
Delhi Daredevils 133/7 in 19.2 overs vs Kings XI Punjab (143/8)
23.33 IST: Idea was right for Mishra, but the execution wasn't quite right. Slower one from Sran, on a length outside off, Mishra moves across the stick to play the scoop shot, but can only get it as far as Rahul behind. Iyer rushes to the other end and completes the single. DD 127/7 in 19 overs
Amit Mishra strides out to the center.
23.27 IST: OUT! Plan working so far. 20 required from 10. Sran doing quite well here. Plunkett skips down the track and lofts this over the infield over mid-wicket. Doesn't get the distance on it and it's taken by Karun Nair out in the deep after moving to his right. Delhi Daredevils 124/7 in 18.2 overs vs Kings XI Punjab (143/8)
23.24 IST:
Liam Plunkett is the next man in.
23.23 IST: OUT! Tye finishes it off with a wicket. Breaks a vital partnership of 47. Fuller and slower outside off, Tewatia gets low to slog sweep and gets a feather behind which Rahul takes with ease. Delhi need 21 to win off 12 balls. Delhi Daredevils 123/6 in 18 overs vs Kings XI Punjab (143/8)
Tye to have a go with the ball again. Crucial over, this. 28 needed in 18.
23.16 IST: FOUR! Tewatia is an underrated player. He showed it last season, is showing it again now. He leans across to this full ball and sweeps it through the backward square leg. Picked his spot perfectly and executed the shot to perfection. DD 113/5 in 16.4 overs
23.12 IST: SIX! What a way to start the over. Rahul Tewatia taking the attack to Sran. Fuller in length, Tewatia backs away and smokes it straight back over the bowler's head and clears the fence. Iyer will be extremely happy with that. It's a vital hit. DD 107/5 in 16.1 overs
Barinder Sran called back into the attack.
23.11 IST: Tewatia cuts again, this time finds the gap. Towards sweeper cover and a single is taken. 5 runs from the over. DD 101/5 in 16 overs
Strategic break signalled. DD need 48 off 30 balls.
23.06 IST: FOUR! Much-needed! This has been bludgeoned! This is a little too full by Mujeeb on the stumps. The spin is out of question and Iyer hits it with brute force past the bowler and the ball races away. DD 96/5 in 15 overs
Mujeeb is back on.
22.59 IST: And his indication is correct. Shreyas Iyer is NOT OUT! This is a good review. Full outside off, almost a yorker, Iyer looks to drill this through the covers and there's a noise as the ball passes the bat. Punjab appeal, the umpire gives it but the batsman takes the DRS. It's gone upstairs and replays show there's no bat it, the noise came off the bat hitting the ground. Iyer survives, Delhi can breathe a sigh of relief. 60 needed off 42. DD 84/5 in 13 overs
22.58 IST: Iyer is given caught behind but he's immediately taken the reivew. That says he thinks the noise is off the bat hitting the ground, not the ball. Over to the TV umpire now. Big moment in the game...
22.56 IST:
Barinder Sran comes back on.
Rahul Tewatia is the next man in to bat.
22.51 IST: OUT! Christian is gone! Ashwin knew instantly he got his man. Iyer works this through mid-wicket with a whip. The batsmen come back for the second and there is a good throw from Agarwal at the bowler's end. Ashwin takes the bails off and celebrates. it's taken upstairs and replays show why. Christian is short of his crease, so Punjab have another wicket. Delhi Daredevils 76/5 in 12 overs vs Kings XI Punjab (143/8)
22.49 IST: FOUR! Superb. That will relieve some pressure. Much-needed for the home side. It's floated outside off, Iyer leans into the drive and caresses it through the gap in the covers for a boundary. DD 73/4 in 11.2 overs
22.46 IST: Not out! Never in doubt there to be honest. Bit over the top drama. Christian hammers this full ball straight back. Mujeeb gets his hand on it, the ball hits the stumps behind and ricochets towards long off. The fielding side appeal, it's taken upstairs. Everybody thinks it's close, but Iyer never raised his bat. So no harm down. Single taken.
22.45 IST: A run out appeal against Iyer is taken upstairs.
22.44 IST: Ashwin is literally down on his knees, begging the umpire to give it his way. Big shout for a leg before turned down. Landed outside off, it spins in a long way and raps Iyer on the front pad as he comes forward to defend. The umpire makes the right call and replays show why. It was spinning way down leg. Terrific. What an eye. DD 65/4 in 10 overs
22.41 IST: Iyer backs away a bit, opens the face and punches it straight to point for one more Two runs and a wicket from the over. DD 63/4 in 9 overs
Strategic break signalled. Daniel Christian to bat next. Delhi need 83 to win off 71 balls. He has a big part to play now.
22.35 IST: OUT! Mujeeb, you beauty. Wicket on his very first ball of the night. The boy never ceases to amaze. He's got ride of the dangerous Rishabh Pant quickly. Comes from around the wicket and drifts it in on off, the southpaw is forward to defend, keeps a big gap between bat and pad as the ball goes right through the gate to shatter the timber. Delhi in trouble here. Delhi Daredevils 61/4 in 8.1 overs vs Kings XI Punjab (143/8)
Mujeeb Ur Rahman is into the bowling attack.
22.31 IST: FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries to end the over! Bit poor from Mujeeb in the deep. Iyer cuts this past the diving point fielder. Mujeeb from third man covers decent ground to his right, slides and gets to the ball, only to let it go away and touch the rope. DD 56/3 in 7 overs
22.30 IST: FOUR! Finds the gap well here, Iyer. Sees the ball landing short, he gets onto his back foot and pulls it along the ground through mid-wicket for a boundary. DD 52/3 in 6.5 overs
22.27 IST:
22.25 IST: FIVE OVERTHROWS! Very, very needless that from Punjab. They can't just give away runs like this. This is on a length on middle, Iyer flicks it through mid-wicket. The batsmen run one. Miller gets to the ball and has a shy at the non-striker's end. A needless one. He misses, the fielder backing up lets the ball through and it races to the fence on the other side. Spoils what was an excellent over. They need another 96 runs. DD 48/3 in 6 overs
Rishabh Pant is the next batsman in.
22.23 IST: OUT! Punjab get three in the Powerplay. It is the Delhi skipper who has to take the long walk back. Once again the slowness of the surface is quite visible there. Tye bowls a slower one on middle, Gambhir looks to turn it away on the leg side but closes the face of the bat early. He gets a leading edge which lobs up towards mid-off where Finch takes a very simple catch. Punjab are right back into this now. DD 43/3 in 5.3 overs vs KXIP (143/8)
Shreyas Iyer is the next man in.
22.19 IST: OUT! Ankit Rajpoot removes Glenn Maxwell for 22. The Big Show is walking back. One shot too many I suppose. It is the slower one which does the trick. On the shorter side outside off. Maxwell winds up and goes for the pull. He, however, gets a top edge which goes high up in the air towards deep square leg. Tye there settles himself under it and takes it with a reverse cup. 103 more needed. DD 41/2 in 4.5 overs vs KXIP (143/8)
22.15 IST:
22.13 IST: SIX! Maximum and first six of the chase. We can expect this from Maxwell as he hits Tye for a big one. Classic Maxwell! You see him doing that so often. It's not an easy shot to play at all, but what a hit. Fuller on middle and leg, Maxwell with those powerful wrists of his whips this over square. DD 39/1 in 3.2 overs
22.09 IST: FOUR! Glenn Maxwell enters and starts off matters with a boundary through mid-wicket. Off the mark in style! Fuller on off, Maxwell moves across, covers his sticks and then whips it powerfully through mid-wicket for a boundary. DD 29/1 in 2.4 overs
22.08 IST:
22.07 IST: OUT! Plumb! Ankit Rajpoot gets the young Prithvi Shaw. Great display by the opener but couldn't read the delivery. Delhi lose their first wicket.Got Delhi off to a positive start, but departs now. Length ball from Rajpoot, Shaw looks to whack it across the line, probably over mid-wicket. Misses the ball altogether and has his off stump taken for a ride. End of a good little knock from the opener, Punjab have their first breakthrough. DD 25/1 in 2.3 overs
22.04 IST: FOUR! Over the slip for a boundary and Prithvi Shaw is making a solid mark on the spot. Good work by the young boy. DD 22/0 in 1.5 overs
22.01 IST: FOUR! Classic. Shaw reminds everyone of Tendulkar. Length ball angling across Shaw, he looks to hit this through the off side but gets an inside edge past the stumps and through the left of the keeper for a boundary. DD 14/0 in 1.2 overs
22.00 IST: FOUR! Fine leg and Prithvi Shaw gets his first taste of the IPL with a boundary. That went to the fence in a flash! Superb hit from Prithvi Shaw. Short ball, outside off, Shaw cuts this fiercely through point for a racy boundary. DD 10/0 in 1.1 overs
21.57 IST: FOUR! Takes the aerial route and gets the desired result! Full this time from Rajpoot, Shaw lofts this just over a leaping Ashwin at mid off and finds the fence with ease. DD 4/0 in 0.3 overs
21.50 IST: We are back for the chase. Delhi will fancy themselves to hunt this target down. Gautam Gambhir will have Prithvi Shaw open the innings with him, Ankit Rajpoot starting with the new ball. Here we go...
21.42 IST:
21.40 IST: OUT! DRAGGED ON! So a wicket from the last ball. Just 4 from the last over and a wicket. This is full and outside off. Tye tries to clear the leg side boundary but gets an inside edge onto his stumps to give Boult his second. PUNJAB FINISH WITH 143 FOR 6! Plunkett 2/17, Boult 2/21, Nair 34
Barinder Sran is the next man in.
21.35 IST: OUT! Another one bites the dust! This one is full and outside off. Ashwin opens the face of the bat and tries to go over point. He does not get the elevation and it goes into the hands of Tewatia who takes it. Kings XI Punjab 140/7 in 19.1 overs vs Delhi Daredevils
Trent Boult to bowl the last over.
21.33 IST: Outstanding finish by Plunkett. Talk about making a comeback in your first game and he has done exactly that. He finishes with a dot here as he bowls a slower ball outside off. Tye swings but misses. Plunkett ends with figures off 4-0-17-3. Just 6 from the penultimate over. KXIP 139/6 in 19 overs
21.28 IST: FOUR LEG BYES! Poor ball to bowl after getting a wicket on the last one. Down the leg side. It brushes the pads off Tye and beats Pant. It races away to the fine leg fence. KXIP 133/6 in 18 overs
Andrew Tye is the next man in.
21.27 IST: OUT! This time it has been taken! Plunkett takes the catch and Christian gets the dangerous Miller. So to Gambhir's relief Miller has not made a lot off the reprieves. This one is a slower one on off, Miller slaps it through covers. He has hit it really well but Delhi have a man there in the deep. It goes straight but low towards him. Liam there takes it just above the ground. Delhi will now look to restrict Punjab below 150. Kings XI Punjab 127/6 in 17.3 overs vs Delhi Daredevils
21.25 IST: FOUR! EDGY FOUR! Miller will take everything that comes his way. This one is short and outside off. Miller goes for the cut but the ball takes the outside edge and goes through third man. KXIP 125/5 in 17.1 overs
Ravichandran Ashwin is the new man in
21.20 IST: OUT! Plunkett is on fire this evening. Bags his third of the evening. Absolutely wonderful bowling effort. Fuller on off, Nair lofts it over wide mid on, looking to clear the rope. He doesn't get enough it, as Iyer out in the deep moves to his right and takes a good catch. Had to cover a lot of ground, but did well in the end to take it. Punjab fall deeper. Kings XI Punjab 116/5 in 16.1 overs vs Delhi Daredevils
21.16 IST: Strategic break signalled! So 4 overs to go and only 116 on the board. Miller and Nair are the two men out there. The former has already been dropped twice. Will he make Delhi pay or will the hosts strike back as they have been doing in this game?
21.15 IST: FOUR! This turned out to be a very expensive over! Down the leg side, Nair this time connects with the sweep shot and it goes to the fine leg fence. KXIP 116/4 in 16 overs
21.14 IST: SIX! Signs of things to come? Punjab will hope so! This is tossed up on off. It is right in Miller's arc. He sends it sailing over the long on fence for a HUGEEE one. KXIP 109/4 in 15.3 overs
21.12 IST In the air... and DROPPED AGAIN! Delhi are not in the mood to get Miller out today as they have now dropped him twice. Shaw is the culprit this time. This one is the googly on off, Miller once again goes to cut but fails to keep it down. It goes towards cover-point where Shaw drops an absolute dolly. Two catches dropped now in two overs. Is it Miller's night today? KXIP 100/4 in 15.1 over
21.11 IST: KXIP 100/4 in 15 overs
21.08 IST:
21.07 IST: Mishra fires it full on the pads, Nair goes for the sweep but the ball hits his pad and then hits Pant's pad and deflects onto the stumps. The crowd here erupts as they feel Nair has been bowled. A dot in the end. KXIP 94/4 in 14 overs
21.03 IST:
David Miller walks out to the middle.
21.00 IST: OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Khan strikes back! Once again he bowls it on a shorter length on middle, Yuvraj goes for the pull but gets a bottom edge which goes into the mitts off Pant. He takes it and appeals and the umpire raises his finger. Kings XI Punjab 85/4 in 12.4 overs vs Delhi Daredevils
20.57 IST: FOUR! Top shot! A much-needed boundary for Punjab. This should break the shackles. Nair makes room and thumps this length ball over covers and it races away. KXIP 80/3 in 12.1 overs
Avesh Khan to bowl out.
20.56 IST: A dot finish! Another briilaint over for Delhi! The runs have completely chocked up here. This is very fast and down the leg side. Yuvraj mistimes his sweep towards short fine leg. KXIP 76/3 in 12 overs
20.56 IST:
20.54 IST: Two dots in a row! Nair tries to be innovative by playing the reverse sweep but he finds the fielder at short third man. Runs are not coming here, something has to give. KXIP 72/3 in 11 overs
Glenn Maxwell is on.
20.51 IST: Flatter on off from Mishra, Nair rocks back and pushes it towards covers. The batsmen set off for a run. The fielder there dives to his right, makes a good stop and has a shy at the non-striker's end but there is no harm done. KXIP 68/3 in 10 overs
Amit Mishra is into the attack. Spinner for the first time today. Will he get some purchase out of the surface?
20.45 IST:
20.43 IST: Just two from this over. So a good passage of play for Delhi. Just 4 from the last two and they have also got a wicket. Nair pushes this one down to long on for a run. KXIP 63/3 in 9 overs
Yuvraj Singh is the next man in.
20.36 IST: OUT! TIMBER! What an impact Plunkett is making here in his first game. He gets his second in his second over. This one is on a length around off. Agarwal goes for the pull shot but the ball is not that short to play at it. The ball sneaks under his bat. Brushes the pad and knocks the off stump out. Plunkett is all pumped up and Punjab are in a spot of bother here. Kings XI Punjab 60/3 in 7.3 overs vs Delhi Daredevils
20.33 IST: FOUR! Slower ball and on the shorter side outside off, Nair has all the time in the world to guide it past the diving short third man fielder. Spoils the over. It was a good one till this delivery. KXIP 58/2 in 6.5 overs
20.32 IST:
20.30 IST: Shorter in length again from Avesh. Agarwal mistimes his pull towards mid on for a run. So just 8 from the last over off the Powerplay. Punjab are 51 for 2. KXIP 51/2 in 6 overs
20.26 IST: FOUR! Exquisite! This is fuller and on off, Nair leans into it and strokes it through covers. It is in the gap and the ball races away. So the runs keep coming here. KXIP 47/2 in 5.1 overs
20.25 IST:
Karun Nair is the next man in.
20.22 IST: OUT! Plunkett removes Rahul for 23. Kings XI Punjab 42/2 in 4.3 overs vs Delhi Daredevils
20.21 IST: FOUR! Up and over! Full and on middle, Rahul goes straight over the bowler's head and collects a boundary. Once again there was not timing on it.
20.18 IST: FOUR! Brilliant! Agarwal moves towards the on side. He gets a ball on off and he drives it through covers and the ball races away. KXIP 36/1 in 3.3 overs
20.16 IST: SIX! This guy is in some form. He expected the bowler to bowl a short one. Rahul is waiting deep into the crease, he gets a bumper and he helps it on its way over the fine leg fence for a biggie. KXIP 31/1 in 3.1 overs
20.15 IST: FOUR! Boult has not got it right in this over. This is a slower one but it is way outside off. Rahul reaches it out for it. He does not get it off the middle but hits it well enough to clear the in-field on the off side and the ball races away. Third boundary in the over. KXIP 24/1 in 2.4 overs
20.12 IST: FOUR! Two-in-two for Agarwal! This is outside off, once again Boult offers width. He is trying to swing the ball back in but there is no movement. Agarwal just puts bat to it. It hits the middle and races through backward point for another boundary. KXIP 19/1 in 2.2 overs
20.11 IST: FOUR! Width on offer and Agarwal cashes in on it. Full and wide outside off, Agarwal drives it square on the off side. It is in the gap and the ball races away. KXIP 15/1 in 2.1 overs
20.10 IST: FOUR! A good end to the over for Punjab but an excellent over for Delhi. This one is on a length around middle, Rahul tries to block it but the ball takes the inside edge and goes down towards fine leg for a boundary. First one for this game. KXIP 11/1 in 2 overs
Mayank Agarwal walks out to the middle.
20.07 IST: OUT! Avesh Khan makes an impact in his first over of his first game this year. Finch has been done in by the pace here. Another short ball on middle, Finch rocks back and goes for the pull. The ball hurries onto him and he gets no timing on it. It once again hits the upper portion off the bat and lobs towards Iyer at covers who accepts a dolly. So Finch's poor patch continues and an early wicket for Delhi. They needed this start. Kings XI Punjab 6/1 in 1.3 overs vs Delhi Daredevils
Avesh Khan to bowl from the other end.
20.04 IST: Fuller again on off from Boult, from over the wicket. No swing on offer. Finch strokes it through covers and runs two. Good first over from the Kiwi pacer. KXIP 5/0 in 1 over

Brief Preview: Bruised and battered after a string of defeats, Delhi Daredevils find themselves in an 'oh-so-familiar' situation as they seek home comfort against a Chris Gayle-inspired Kings XI Punjab in the match 22 of Indian Premier League at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Without an iota of doubt, the Daredevils have been the least impressive of all teams in the past few seasons of the cash-rich extravaganza, only managing to finish at the bottom half of the pecking order.
In the last two seasons, the Daredevils ended their campaign at the sixth position, were a place down in 2015 and finished last the year before, in 2014. The story has been similar in the ongoing edition as they struggle with fours losses from five outings to occupy the last place. They were done in by the versatile AB de Villiers' smashing knock last night and up next at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Daredevils will be up against the destructive Gayle, who has made a statement with two fifties and century, scoring those runs in his trademark style.
