Pune: Australian all-rounder and Rising Pune Supergiants’ key bowler Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League due to a side strain.
After Kevin Pieterson and Faf du Plessis, Marsh is the third player from Rising Pune Supergiants team to be forced out due to injury in this IPL season.
"Mitchell experienced some pain over his left abdominal area whilst batting at a training session with his team Pune in the IPL a few days ago," Cricket Australia Sports Science and Sports Medicine Manager Alex Kountouris said in a statement.
"He missed his team's next game and the pain has not resolved. He had scans in India that suggest he has a side strain injury and will now return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the Qantas Tour of the West Indies.
"Once we have a better understanding of the extent of the injury we will be able to advise on his return to play time frames," he added.
Marsh had played only three matches for Supergiants' so far, taking four wickets at an economy of 5.
The struggling team had brought in Australian Usman Khawaja after Pietersen and du Plessis were ruled out. With Marsh's injury, Pune now have two empty slots in the line-up.
