Mumbai: Defending champions Mumbai Indians have managed a respectable total of 143 for the loss of 8 wickets against spirited debutants Gujarat Lions in the ninth match of the Indian Premier League at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Gujarat Lions won the toss and invited Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians to bat first.

Mumbai got a disappointing start as they lost Rohit Sharma in the second over and then Hardik Pandya in the fourth over of the innings.

Parthiv Patel played a responsible inning of 34 run from 29 balls that included two fours and 2 sixes.

Pollard once again disappointed with his batting and made just one run in three balls.

Mumbai Indians were at one time struggling at 99/7 after 17 overs when tail enders Krunal Pandya (20 from 11 balls) and Tim Southee (25 off just 11 deliveries) came to the team’s rescue.

Both, with their small yet significant innings, added crucial 42 runs for the eighth wicket pushing the team’s score past 140.

Dhawal Kulkarni and Pravin Tambe bagged two wickets for Gujarat Lions. Jakati, Faulkner and Bravo shared one wicket each.
