IPL NEWS 2019: Indian Premier League 2019 to be played in India, will start from March 23

Indian Premier League 2019 to be played in India from March 23: The 12th edition of the Indian Premier League [IPL] will be played in India from March 23, announced the Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI], adding that the IPL 2019 detailed schedule will be revealed later. The decision was taken after the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) on Tuesday met in New Delhi to discuss the VIVO IPL 2019 venues and window. (IPL 2019 DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED LATER)

"Based on the preliminary discussions with the appropriate central and state agencies/authorities, it was decided that the 12th edition of the world's most popular and competitive T20 tournament will be scheduled to be played in India," read a BCCI press release.

"It is proposed that the VIVO IPL 2019 will commence on March 23, 2019. The detailed schedule will be finalised in consultation with the appropriate authorities," the release added.

The two-member COA will again have a detailed discussion with the stakeholders before the full and final schedule of IPL 2019 is released.

Earlier, it was believed that the IPL could be shifted out of the country because of the general elections with UAE and South Africa being the two options.

The UAE had hosted first leg of the IPL in 2014 while South Africa hosted the entire tournament in 2009 because of the elections clashing with the cash-rich tournament.
