After losing the first ODI of the six-match series by six wickets to India, South Africa suffered another blow on Friday as captain Faf du Plessis ruled out of the ongoing series along with the upcoming T20I series due to a finger injury.

The 33-year-old Pretoria-based batsman sustained an injury during the first ODI in Durban. The medical examiner later revealed that he fractured his finger in the on-field accident.

According to reports, all-rounder Farhaan Behardien will replace the South African skipper in the squad. However, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) is yet to announce the captain for the remaining series against India.

Earlier, the Proteas lost the services of their star batsman AB de Villiers due to injury. He was ruled out for the first three ODI and might join the squad in later on.

In Durban, Du Plessis was the lone fighter for South Africa as he scored impressive 120 off 112 balls at a time when no other batsman managed to stay on the crease for long.

However, India skipper Virat Kohli further enhanced his reputation as a 'chase master' as he smashed his 33rd hundred to lead India to a six-wicket victory over South Africa in the first ODI.

Kohli scored 112 off 119 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and put on the 189-run stand for the third-wicket with Ajinkya Rahane (79 runs of 86 balls) as India chased down the target of 270 with 4.3 overs to spare.
