Pujara, who was the overnight batsman for India along with Parthiv Patel, was run out for 19 early on the fifth and final day as India chase a record 287 in Centurion.

While trying to steal a third run, Pujara took a suicidal chance with AB de Villiers' throwing arm and even a dive couldn't save the Saurashtra batsman.

With this run out, Pujara has now become the first India player to be run-out twice in a Test.

He is also the first player to be run-out twice in a Test in the 21st century.

Soon after Pujara's dismissal, South Africa again rocked the Indian chase with Kagiso Rabada removing Parthiv for 19, leaving the world's top-ranked team on the brink of a first series defeat since 2015.

Earlier on Day 4, chasing 287 for victory, which will be the highest ever at this venue, Murali Vijay (9), Lokesh Rahul (4) and captain Virat Kohli (5) were dismissed cheaply in the final session as India lost their top order.

Debutant Lungi Ngidi grabbed the wickets of Kohli and Rahul while Kagiso Rabada dismissed Vijay to rock the Indian second innings and place South Africa in a commanding position of clinching the three-match series with one Test to go in Johannesburg from January 24.
