Groundstaff at work as the rain continues to fall during day one of second Test Match at Lord's Cricket Ground.
After losing the first Test Edgbaston, the Indian cricket team went into the Lord’s Test, hoping to make the comeback in the five-match series against England. While Virat Kohli and his men hoped to do an encore of 2014 at the iconic venue, the destiny had different things in store for them.
The entire first day of second Test match was washed out without even a ball being bowled. The toss for the match also couldn’t take place due to incessant rainfall.
To dampen the fans' hopes, more rain is expected to arrive in London today and in the upcoming days.
According to weather forecast, London will experience a rainy weather in the upcoming days and that could play the spoilsport for the Indian camp.
On the second day of the Test match, play is set to start at the usual time of 3.30 PM IST and an extra 30 minutes allowed at the end of the day. However, the weather reports are not providing any good news to Team India.
While weather on Saturday and Sunday seems to be clear with soothing sunshine, dark clouds are expected to return on Monday.
With a day already lost, the Indian team will look to make an impact on the remaining four days of the match in order to level the series 1-1 at Lord's.
The playing XIs of both England and India are yet to disclosed and the toss will play a crucial role in the match.
Both teams are expected to make a few changes as Ben Stokes will be missing the match due to his court trial. Moeen Ali or Chris Woakes might replace the aggressive allrounder in England XI.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old batsman Ollie Pope will also get his first Test cap as he will be replacing Dawid Malan in the squad.
On the other side, the Indian team could make a couple of changes after the flop show of the batsmen in the first Test. Cheteshwar Pujara might get his place back, while Shikhar Dhawan is expected to sit out after a poor show with the bat at Edgbaston. India might also pick an extra spinner on the batting-friendly pitch to trouble the English batsmen.
