The Indian team will have to make do without explosive Indian batsman Rohit Sharma for the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he has flown back to Mumbai to be with his wife as the couple were blessed with a baby girl last night.
With the New Year's Test starting from January 3, Rohit is only going to return on January 8th according to a tweet posted by the BCCI. It said: "Rohit Sharma to join ODI squad on 8th January. India batsman @ImRo45 left for Mumbai on the 30th of December to attend to his wife who has delivered a baby girl. The BCCI congratulates Rohit on the beginning of a new chapter in his life."
The middle-order batsman and his wife Ritika Sajdeh welcomed a baby girl on December 30, within a day of his team registering a historic win in Melbourne against hosts Australia.
It was Seema Khan, Ritika's cousin sister who broke the news on Instagram when she tagged the latter in a photo with the caption: "Baby girl, masi's again".
Ritika and Rohit were married in 2015 after the ICC Cricket World Cup. The duo had managed to hide the pregnancy news for quite some time but photos posted on social media recently revealed that the couple was expecting a new member in the family.
