Australia have announced their playing XI for the first of the three ODIs to be played against visitors India to be played on January 12th. Fast bowler Peter Siddle has made a comeback into the team that is missing its three frontline pacers in Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins who are enjoying a well-deserved rest after a gruelling Test series.
Siddle who last played an ODI for the Kangaroos in November 2010 is set to don the yellow jersey after a huge gap of 8 years. While Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff will shoulder the pace responsibilities with Siddle, leg-spinner Adam Zampa has failed to find a place in the eleven.
Instead ace spinner Nathan Lyon has been included in the team along with big-hitting all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell.
"It's something I'd probably forgotten about really," Siddle told cricket.com.au on his selection.
"I never thought I'd get the opportunity to play one-day cricket for Australia again. So yeah I feel like a young kid getting this first opportunity, so it's pretty nice to get that phone call and be around the squad and have the potential to play an ODI after a long time away," said a smiling Siddle.
Australia XI: Aaron Finch (c), Alex Carey (wk), Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Nathan Lyon, Peter Siddle, Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff
