India’s cricket governing body BCCI on Thursday filed an official complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against Australian skipper Steve Smith and Peter Handscomb over the DRS issue.

The ICC had on Wednesday issued a statement saying that no action will be taken against both Steve Smith and Virat Kohli.

“The ICC has confirmed that no charges have been laid against any player under the ICC Code of Conduct following the second Test match between India and Australia in Bengaluru," the ICC said in a statement.

It added, “Specifically in relation to Steve Smith and Virat Kohli, the ICC has considered both incidents in the context of this match and concluded it will be taking no further action against either player."

It all started during the second test match in which India defeated Australia by 75 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Chasing a target of 188 runs, Australia were all out for 112 in their second innings shortly after tea on the penultimate day. India have now levelled the four-Test series at 1-1.

Smith was given leg before to a delivery Umesh Yadav by the on-field umpire. Smith first turned to the non-striker's end to seek an opinion within the mandated 15 seconds. But sparks flew when the umpires noticed that the batsman had turned towards the dressing room as well to get a clue.

The on-field officials immediately intervened to stop Smith but matters came to a head when Indian skipper Virat Kohli too joined the discussion, leading to an exchange between him and the rival captain.

Meanwhile, Australia batsman Peter Handscombe has admitted his fault in suggesting Smith to seek inputs from the dressing room.

Post-midnight, it was Handscombe, who took to twitter to defend his captain and take the blame for what Smith has termed as a ‘brain fade’.

Former India skipper Ravi Shastri also said that the move by Smith was in violation of rules and he could be punished for it.

"If evidence is found against Smith that he violated the rules, he could even be banned," Shastri told India TV.
