This day, that year, a time when the people were revived of blasting enthusiasm to see one of the greatest batsman deliver sheer class, Sachin Tendulkar on this day, became the first batsman to hit a double century in One Day Internationals. The Master Blaster achieved the feat against South Africa in Gwalior nine years ago.
Tendulkar scripted history on this day in 2010 as his double ton powered India to a series-clinching win against South Africa at the Captain Roop Singh Stadium.
200 runs, 147 balls, 25 fours and 3 sixes, a strike rate of 136.0 and unbeaten, the Master Blaster's double ton powered India to post a mammoth total of 401/3 in 50 overs. In the same innings, Dinesh Karthik played a gritty 79, followed by then captain MS Dhoni's unbeaten 68.
Chasing 402 in the 2nd ODI in Gwalior, AB de Villiers scored a valiant ton while the others batsman failed to deliver. The highest other than de Villiers was 34 as the bowlers cleaned house with a collective effort.
While Tendulkar laid the foundation, plenty of cricketers have gone on to smash double tons in ODI cricket but however, it has been another Mumbaikar who has taken double centuries to another level - Rohit Sharma.
The current Team India vice-captain has smashed three ODI double tons so far, the most by any batsman in the world. Virender Sehwag has also smashed a double ton (219) against West Indies in 2011.
