The new name was announced in a function in Delhi on December 4.
In a surprise move, Delhi Daredevils who are yet to win a single IPL title have changed their name to 'Delhi Capitals' today. From now on the Delhi franchise of the IPL will be known as Delhi Capitals instead of the Daredevils which used to be their name for the first eleven seasons of the flagship tournament.
That is the name with the team will take the field in IPL 2019 although Shreyas Iyer will continue to remain the skipper of the team. The team made the announcement in a programme organised in Delhi on the evening of December 4.
It should be noted that Delhi have released their veteran batsman Gautam Gambhir ahead of the next season while trading him for the swashbuckling opener Shikhar Dhawan. The coaching staff includes the experienced duo of Md. Kaif and Praveen Amre. Along with this young Indian sensations, Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant have been retained by the franchise for the next season.
