New Delhi: In a marked departure from its earlier stand on the matter, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has said that it wants the Supreme Court to reveal the names of the 10 players mentioned in the report submitted by the committee headed by Punjab and Haryana HC chief justice Mukul Mudgal.
"We want those names to come out. Why were those names not made public? It's, after all, a Supreme Court-appointed committee. Fans should know all the names which appeared in the Justice Mudgal's probe report," a BCCI official told Times of India.
The three-member panel headed by chief justice Mukul Mudgal submitted its report on betting and spot-fixing scandal in IPL 2013 to the Supreme Court in 2014. The report included the names of 13 players, of which only three have come out in the open.
Sources also revealed that BCCI is likely to take up this matter in front of the Supreme Court in the coming days.
It is important to mention here that in 2014, when the panel headed by Justice Mudgal had submitted the report in the Supreme Court, BCCI had taken a different stand and pleaded the apex court not to disclose the names of players mentioned in the IPL probe report.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court said that BCCI, being a governing body, is doing a public service and not any business.
The BCCI is not doing any business or trade but running an activity. It is subject to rule of law as it is discharging a public function. No one is above the law and BCCI is also subject matter of law," senior advocate Gopal Subramanium told the bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur and Justice FMI Kalifulla.
