Records tumble in Dehradun: Zazai's unbeaten 162 powers Afghanistan to set highest total in T20Is

Zazai along with Ghani mauled the Irish bowlers as it was raining boundaries in Dehradun, stitching up the highest opening partnership in T20I cricket.

Zazai's unbeaten 162 powers Afghanistan to set highest total in T20Is

Hazratullah Zazai set Dehradun on fire with his blistering unbeaten 162 as he led Afghanistan to post the highest ever total in T20I cricket during the 2nd T20I against Ireland at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. Plenty of records tumbled as the Afghans also posted the highest opening partnership as well. 

Afghanistan posted 278/3 in 20 overs with Zazai (162*) and Usman Ghani (73) contributing to stitch the highest opening partnership of 236 in T20I cricket. 

Opting to bat in the 2nd T20I, the opening pair of Zazai and Ghani mauled the Irish bowlers as it was raining boundaries in Dehradun. 

Zazai didn't break a sweat against the Irish as went on to become the third fastest batsman to reach a century in 42 balls in men's T20I cricket. He went to thrash the bowlers to post the second highest score by a batsman - 162.

Here are the records that were made in the 1st T20I against Ireland. 

  •  Highest total in T20Is
  •  Hazratullah Zazai and Usman Ghani put together the highest opening partnership in T20I cricket - 236
  •  Zazai hits the second highest individual score by a batsman. 
  • Zazai becomes the third fastest to reach a ton in 42 balls in men's T20I cricket. 

In the 1st T20I, Mohammad Nabi's brilliant all-round display earned Afghanistan a five-wicket win over Ireland to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. 

Nabi took 2-16 with his off-spin bowling and restricted Ireland to 132-6. Then he scored an unbeaten 49 off 40 balls to carry Afghanistan to 136-5 in 19.2 overs.
