Yuzvendra Chahal opened his 2019 account with six wickets in his first match of the year, spinning his way through the Australian batting line-up in the 3rd and final ODI of the three-match series in Melbourne.
He also went to to set a few records and set a career best figure in ODI cricket. His 6/42 has left the cricket fraternity in amazement, including Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
Tendulkar took to Twitter to laud Chahal for his outstanding performance, calling him India's 'trump card'. Here's what the Master Blaster had to say.
'The guile with which @yuzi_chahal has bowled today has been beautiful. He has tricked the batsmen and set them up to play shots he wanted them to play. A well deserved 6 wicket haul. Trump card selection! #INDvAUS #FightOfMight'
Besides Tendulkar, many other cricketers were left in amazement.
Chahal grabbed his first opportunity in the series with both hands, taking a career-best 6 for 42 to decimate Australia for a paltry 230 in the third and final ODI here on Friday.
At the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, Chahal matched Ajit Agarkar's 6-42 during 2004 tri-series to record the joint best-ever ODI figures on Australian soil.
In doing so, he also improved on his previous best of 5-22 against South Africa at Centurion in January 2018.
Chahal, who replaced Mohammed Siraj, made life difficult for the Australian batsmen with deceptive flight and varying the pace of his deliveries.
