Star Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin today sparked a row with a cryptic tweet offering "234 job opportunities", in what was seen as a reference to the number of Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu.
His comment came a day after AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala was elected as the party's Legislature Leader.
“To all the youngsters in TN, 234 job opportunities to open up shortly,” Ashwin tweeted early morning today.
The tweet drew instant posts with some pointing out at his "guts" and others quipping that he should contest for the Chief Minister's post and that they would back him.
However, Ashwin soon clarified that he was not commenting on the political debate but was referring to a job creation drive.
Sasikala was on Sunday elected by the AIADMK MLAs as their Legislature Party Leader, paving her way for her elevation as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. She will have to be elected as a member of the Assembly within six months after becoming the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam yesterday resigned to make way for Sasikala, two months after her, mentor J. Jayalalithaa, died.
The 59-year-old Sasikala, a long-time Jayalalithaa confidante, later said that outgoing Chief Minister Panneerselvam himself wanted her to head the government.
