Zimbabwean players celebrate the fall of a Bangladeshi wicket.

Zimbabwe registered its first test match victory since 2013, scoring a comprehensive 151-run win against Bangladesh in the opening test on Tuesday.

Since its victory against Pakistan at Harare five years ago, Zimbabwe lost 11 matches and drew one.

Debutant leg-spinner Brandon Mavuta (4-21) and left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza (2-33) shared six wickets and offspinner Sikandar Raza added 3-41.

The hosts were dismissed for 169 in their second innings after scoring 143 in their first. Zimbabwe followed up its 282 runs from the first innings with 181 in its second.

As Bangladesh began the day on 26-0 in an extended lunch session to make up the lost overs of the previous day, Raza broke through with the wicket of Liton Das for 23.

Opener Imrul Kayes was the top Bangladesh scorer with 43 in the second innings and debutant Ariful Haque added 38 before being the last batsman to be out.

Brief score: Zimbabwe 282 and 181 def. Bangladesh 143 and 169 (Imrul Kayes 43; Brandon Mavuta 4-21, Sikandar Raza 3-41) by 151 runs.
