The 35-year-old picked up career-best one-day figures of 7/49 during a domestic match in Kandy on Thursday, the day after he picked up three wickets for Mumbai Indians.

Sri Lanka's fast bowler Lasith Malinga took 10 wickets in two games across two countries in two days. The 35-year-old picked up career-best one-day figures of 7/49 during a domestic match in Kandy on Thursday, the day after he picked up three wickets for Mumbai Indians in an IPL clash against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai. After helping Mumbai to a 37-run victory, Malinga left to play for Galle in Sri Lanka Super Four Provincial Limited Over Tournament.

The fast bowler then went onto rattle Kandy with 7/49 to help Galle to a 156-run win. However, two weeks ago it seemed like Malinga would be missing most of the IPL.

Malinga had made himself unavailable for the MI's first six matches as he was to participate in Sri Lanka's Super Provincial One-Day domestic tournament, slated from April 4 to April 11, in a bid to make it to the World Cup team.

Later, the Sri Lanka ODI captain was allowed to play in the IPL after Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) softened its stance on the participation of the veteran pacer in a domestic ODI tournament.

SLC had earlier announced that only those players would be eligible for selection in the World Cup squad, who would compete in Super Provincial One-Day domestic tournament, slated from April 4 to 11.

Malinga's form will boost Mumbai Indians' confidence as they aim to register their fourth title win of the tournament under Rohit Sharma.

The three-time winners will lock horns with table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad in an away game on April 6 before hosting R Ashwin's Kings XI Punjab four days later.
