Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples and is lodged in Sunaria jail in Rohtak district.
In 2017, Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20-year imprisonment for raping two disciples. The Dera chief and three others were also convicted in 2019 for the murder of a journalist more than 16 years ago.
Ram Rahim Singh, who was convicted for the murder of a journalist over 16 years ago, even got Z-plus security cover from the Manohar Lal Khattar government during one of his 21-day release on furlough from a Haryana jail.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who has been a controversial figure, continues to evoke public and legal scrutiny. The Dera Sacha Sauda chief was convicted for the rape of two women.
The Haryana government has once again approved the parole of rape convict Ram Rahim who was previously granted parole in January this year.
Haryana CM Khattar refused to interfere saying taking parole is one's right. Ram Rahim's last 40-day parole ended on November 25 last year.
Ram Rahim is on 21-day furlough from Sunaria jail and is camping in Gurugram. He will be getting 10 NSG security personnel for mobile security and eight security personnel for his residence security.
Ranjit Singh, who was also a follower of the sect, was shot dead in 2002. He was murdered for his suspected role in the circulation of an anonymous letter, which narrated how women were being sexually exploited by Ram Rahim.
Ram Rahim (53) is currently lodged at the high-security Sunaria jail in Rohtak, 250 km from Chandigarh. Last month, he was hospitalised at the PGMIS after he complained of low blood pressure. But he had refused a Covid-19 test in the hospital.
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was in August 2017 sentenced by a special CBI court in Panchkula to 20 years in jail in the rape case.
State Home Minister Anil Vij on Monday said in Chandigarh "every person has the equal right to meet the convict and the law can't stop anyone from meeting that person".
"He withdrew his parole application on Monday," a senior official of Haryana Prisons Department said, refusing to divulge further details.
