Talking about the Kumbh Mela and 3rd "Shah Snan", IG Sanjay Gunjyal said that "Baisakhi Snan" is considered to be biggest among all holy snans of Kumbh.
Kumbh is held periodically at four different locations in India -- Nashik, Haridwar, Prayagraj, and Ujjain. In normal circumstances, Kumbh continues for nearly four months but this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the duration of the congregation has been curtailed to one month.
A total of 31 lakh devotees took a holy dip on the occasion of the second 'Shahi Snan' at the Har Ki Pauri till six pm on Monday during the ongoing Kumbh Mela amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Uttarakhand reported 1,333 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Sunday taking the total number of the cases in the state to 1,08,812. The active cases in the state now stand at 7,323.
Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar on April 10 informed about the changes done in the ongoing Kumbh Mela amid rising cases of COVID-19.
The chill in the atmosphere in and around the Sangam here failed to dampen the spirit of around 1.5 crore people who gathered on Sunday for the third 'shahi snan' at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati.
The Mela commenced on January 15 on Makar Sankranti, the first bathing day, and the Mahashivratri on March 4 will mark its last bathing day.
All roads led to Sangam city where devotees gathered ahead the third and the final shahi snan on Basant Panchami, falling on Sunday, during which more than two crore people are expected to take a holy dip at the Kumbh Mela.
