Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Jaihind on Saturday asked Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to make sanitary napkins tax free under GST.
Parrikar said that the state could expect to gain anywhere from Rs 600 crore to Rs 1,000 crore annually after the implementation of GST.
Jaitley hoped that the GST would roll-out as scheduled by July 1. "July looks likely because state after state is approving State GST. By the end of May all state laws approval looks likely."
The Revenue Secretary said the biggest advantage of the GST was that there would be no different taxes between the state and the central government.
As per the recommendation of the GST Council, all state assemblies are required to pass the Bill before July 1, when the GST comes into effect throughout the country.
Bihar on Monday became the second state to pass the GST Bill after Telangana, paving the way for roll out of the new tax regime from July 1.
