Rajasthan continues to reel under a severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures reaching alarming levels and resulting in tragic fatalities. On Friday, six more deaths due to suspected heat stroke were reported across the state, adding to the five fatalities recorded just a day earlier.
According to the officials, the heatwave claimed three lives in Balotra, and one each in Bhilwara, Bikaner, and Jodhpur. While the cause of death is suspected to be heat stroke, though are waiting for the post-mortem reports for official confirmation.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Meteorological Centre in Jaipur reported Phalodi as the hottest place in the state, with temperatures soaring to a scorching 49 degrees Celsius. This extreme heatwave has engulfed various parts of Rajasthan, with cities like Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jodhpur registering temperatures well above 45 degrees Celsius.
Govt mobilized efforts to address heatwave impacts
In response to the escalating heatwave crisis, the Rajasthan government has swiftly mobilized efforts to address the heatwave's impact. Additional Chief Secretary of the Medical and Health Department, Shubhra Singh, has issued directives to bolster preventive and treatment measures across all medical institutions.
As part of the proactive approach, hospitals are instructed to ensure the functionality of cooling systems such as coolers, fans, air conditioners, and water coolers. Moreover, a three-day deadline has been set to implement necessary arrangements to mitigate the effects of the heatwave.
Amidst the scorching temperatures, the state government has also urged residents to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. With warnings from the weather office predicting further heatwave conditions, authorities said they are working diligently to provide relief measures and ensure public safety.
