Jaipur: A POCSO court in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district on Monday awarded a death sentence to two men for raping and burning alive a minor girl in a coal furnace in August last year. "Kalu and Kanha were awarded death penalty by the court," Special Public Prosecutor Mahaveer Singh Kishnawat said.
The court had convicted Kalu and Kanha for the crime that occurred in August last year. Seven other individuals accused of destroying evidence were acquitted by the court. Kishnawat said that the acquittal would be challenged in the high court.
Minor girl's burnt body found
A charred body of a missing 14-year-old girl was recovered from a coal furnace in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district. The two accused raped the girl and threw her into a coal furnace.
Reportedly, a minor girl from the Shahpura Panchayat Samiti area Girdiya Panchayat area of the district went to graze goats on on August 2, 2023. When she didn't return till evening, her family and villagers spread out to look for her. When the family and villagers did not find the girl, they went to the police to lodge a missing report, but the police did not register the case. The next day in the morning, the villagers again searched for the girl and they found her remains in a brick kiln at a field near her home.
