Congress leader Manvendra Singh's wife and Jaswant Singh's daughter-in-law died in a road accident near Alwar on Tuesday. Three persons, including Manvendra, present in the car got injured in the accident. Manvendra Singh's son was also present in the vehicle.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed his condolence in a post on X.
"The news of the demise of Mrs Chitra Singh, wife of Manvendra Singh Jasol in a road accident is sad. I pray to God to give peace to the departed soul and courage to the family. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of Shri Manvendra Singh Jasol and other family members injured in the road accident," his post read.
Who is Manvendra Singh?
Congress leader Manvendra Singh contested from Siwana in the Rajasthan Assembly elections 2023, but he lost. He switched from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to Congress five years ago. He is the son of former BJP stalwart Jaswant Singh. Manvendra contested the Lok Sabha Election for the first time in 1999 from Barmer but lost to Congress leader Sonaram Choudhary. In 2004, Manvendra Singh defeated Sonaram Choudhary by 2,71,888 votes. However, he couldn't retain his seat and lost to Congress candidate Harish Choudhary by 1,19,106 votes in 2009. In 2013, Manvendra won the Sheo Assembly constituency by 31,425 votes. In 2018, Singh joined the Congress and contested against Vasundhara Raje Scindia from Jhalrapatan but lost. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Manvendra Singh was again defeated by BJP's Kailash Choudhary with a huge margin of 3,23,808 votes.
