43 people have been arrested after a violent clash broke out between two communities on Friday over an illegal construction on a disputed land in Sursagar Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Tensions escalated as the mob of both communities started pelting stones at each other, a rioting situation that continued for hours. Meanwhile, the shop was also set on fire. In the meantime, Jodhpur police reached the spot to control the situation but were trapped in the clash and were attacked with petrol bombs by the violent mob of miscreants. During the clashes, two police personnel got injured while a shop and a tractor were set on fire. Additionally, a jeep was also vandalised.

Seeing the situation going out of control, the Police called reinforcement and brought it under control. Currently, the forces have been deployed in the area to prevent any uncertainty.

What was the matter?

The recent clashes erupted over an agreement that was reached between the Hindus and the Muslims 15 years ago regarding the land on which illegal construction was going on. But recently the Muslim side broke the agreement and started construction. After this, the Hindu side opposed the construction. To this, people of the other community started attacking them with bricks, furthering tensions. Jodhpur West DCP Rajesh Kumar Yadav stated the clash began over the construction of a gate in the backside of an eidgah near Rajaram Circle in the Soor Sagar area. Locals in the area have been opposing the gate so that there was no movement of people at the backside of the eidgah. Last night, tension escalated and some people pelted stones, injuring two policemen, DCP Yadav added. "Police dispersed people to their homes by using batons and fired 4-5 rounds of tear gas shells," the officer added.
