In Kotputli, Rajasthan, a tragic incident occurred on December 23 when a three-year-old girl fell into a borewell in Kiratpura village. Despite extensive rescue operations, the child was retrieved without signs of life. Principal Medical Officer Chaitanya Rawat reported that a team of three doctors examined the girl, and her body has been shifted to the mortuary for postmortem examination.
The rescue operation, which lasted several days, involved teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). The borewell, approximately 150 feet deep, posed significant challenges to the rescuers. Local residents and authorities collaborated in the efforts, but unfortunately, the child could not be saved.
In perhaps one of the longest rescue operations in the state, it lasted for over 160 hours, for which the family members have blamed the administration for being negligent. The administration on the other hand has claimed it is one of the toughest operations.
Toughest operation in state: DC
On Monday, Kotputli-Behror District Collector Kalpana Agarwal said, "There is a rock-solid stratum. Rain also posed a challenge. Teams are making continuous efforts to dig a parallel tunnel." She also termed it the toughest rescue operation in the state. Meanwhile, the NDRF team in charge, Yogesh Kumar Meena, had told the media that the rescue operation was going on continuously.
Chetna had fallen into the borewell while playing in the agriculture farm of her father in Badiyali Dhani under the Sarund police station of Kotputli-Behror district of Rajasthan. Initially, efforts were made to pull the girl out of the borewell with the help of a ring but all attempts failed. After two days of repeated attempts that fetched no results, a piling was brought to the spot on Wednesday morning, and a parallel pit was dug.
