Earlier today, BJP announced that Yogi Adityanath will contest the upcoming assembly polls in the state from his stronghold Gorakhpur. The party released its first list of candidates for the upcoming polls.

Gorakhpur is the hometown of Adityanath. He had been the MP from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat since 1998 until he became the chief minister in 2017.

The list was released by union minister Dharmendra Pradhan & BJP national general secretary Arun Singh at the press conference in New Delhi.

UP minister Swami Prasad Maurya on Tuesday quit BJP after resigning as a cabinet minister from the Yogi government. The former UP minister has joined Samajwadi Party ahead of high-stakes assembly elections beginning next month from February 10.

The Election Commission on Saturday announced poll dates for five states with Uttar Pradesh going for a seven-phase assembly election.

CEC Sushil Chandra today announced polling dates for all 5 poll-bound states including UP. The tenure of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly will end on May 14 this year.

Accordingly, the revised rate for metered power connection would be Rs 1 per unit instead of Rs 2 now and the fixed charge on one horsepower motors would be Rs 35 instead of the present rate of Rs 70 per meter, it said.
