Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022: The BJP's Central Election Committee (CEC) today held a discussion on the names of candidates for 172 seats.

The saffron party suffered a jolt on Tuesday when three of its MLAs resigned citing "ignorance of the state government" of the poor and weaker section of society. 

CM Yogi Adityanath, currently a member of the legislative council, had recently said that he is willing to contest the assembly polls from wherever the party's top brass decides.

Swami Prasad Maurya has been accused of stoking communal feelings when he was in the BSP, seven years ago. Maurya has been asked to appear in court on January 24.

According to sources within the party, the BJP is likely to give ticket to Shrikant Sharma from the key constituency.

UP minister Swami Prasad Maurya on Tuesday quit BJP after resigning as a cabinet minister from the Yogi government. The former UP minister has joined Samajwadi Party ahead of high-stakes assembly elections beginning next month from February 10.

The Election Commission on Saturday announced poll dates for five states with Uttar Pradesh going for a seven-phase assembly election.

CEC Sushil Chandra today announced polling dates for all 5 poll-bound states including UP. The tenure of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly will end on May 14 this year.

Accordingly, the revised rate for metered power connection would be Rs 1 per unit instead of Rs 2 now and the fixed charge on one horsepower motors would be Rs 35 instead of the present rate of Rs 70 per meter, it said.

Adityanath's attack on Rahul comes amidst remarks by the Congress leader over the past few days wherein he repeatedly sought to highlight the difference between Hindu and Hindutva and described Hindu as tolerant and Hindutva as power-seeking.
