At least 16 people have been killed after a bus fell off a bridge in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on Tuesday night.

Uttar Pradesh has administered over 2 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine till now with over 30 lakh jabs given to beneficiaries in the 18-44 age group.

Special 'pink booths' will start functioning in Uttar Pradesh from today to encourage women to take Covid vaccine. 

Orphans aged up to 10 years, who do not have any guardian or extended family to take care of them, will be rehabilitated in five Rajkiya Bal Grah (children's shelter homes) in Uttar Pradesh. These shelter homes are in Mathura, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Agra, and Rampur.

Uttar Pradesh recorded 1,500 cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, registering a decline of 95 per cent from its peak in April.

Meanwhile, the NSA has been invoked against a man who was arrested last month for alleged black marketing of Remdesivir injections, police said on Saturday. The accused, Sachin Kumar of Haryana, was arrested along with two medical representatives, Kanpur Police Commissioner Asim Arun said.

In view of the prevailing pandemic situation in the country, Uttar Pradesh has further extended Corona curfew in the state till May 31, 7 am. The lockdown was supposed to end on May 24 but has now been extended for another week.

Uttar Pradesh has become the first state in the country to conducted as many as 3.7 Covid tests in a single day.

Cases of black fungus have been reported in various parts of the country including Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar.

A 100-bed COVID-19 care facility started in a community health centre in Gautam Buddh Nagar's rural Jewar area on Thursday with support from local authorities and foreign aid, BJP leader and local MLA Dhirendra Singh said.

In a letter to Adityanath, Priyanka Gandhi said the second wave of the pandemic has severely affected the masses and people have had to bear "unbearable pain" due to the alleged lack of preparation on the part of the administration.

The Uttar Pradesh government will provide free ration to the people of the state for the next three months. This will benefit almost 15 crore people of the state.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has said that about 1.3 lakh such centres across the state will assist people in registering on the app and eventually, provide the facility of vaccination.

In view of the current Covid situation in the country, the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday extended the lockdown for one more week till May 24. The government has also announed Rs 1,000 as financial assistance for registered roadside vendors.
