Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a 2-day Varanasi visit, on Tuesday met chief ministers of BJP ruled states and discussed issues like good governance, besides giving tips to state leaders. PM Modi on Monday inaugurated Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.

Named after Swarveda by Vihangam Yoga Sansthan, the seven-storey Mahamandir is spread over 68,000 square feet.

During the two-day visit to Varanasi, PM Modi will also participate in a conclave of Chief Ministers of various states.

Akhilesh Yadav ruled Uttar Pradesh (UP) from 2012 to 2017 and was succeeded by Yogi Adityanath.  

Congress parallelly addressed another rally in Rajasthan, while Yogi and Nadda addressed BJP booth presidents in Etah.

Over 3,000 seers, figures associated with different religious maths, artistes and other noted people will assemble at the venue on December 13 to witness the inauguration.

PM Modi was speaking at the inauguration of the Saryu Canal National Project in Balrampur which will provide assured water for irrigation to over 14 lakh hectares of land and benefit about 29 lakh farmers, mainly in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Centre, the project was launched in 1978 but got delayed for four decades due to "lack of continuity of budgetary support, interdepartmental coordination and adequate monitoring".

The project has been built at a total cost of over Rs 9,800 crore. The project involves interlinking of five rivers -- Ghaghara, Saryu, Rapti, Banganga and Rohini -- to ensure optimum usage of water resources of the region.

At a press conference in Gorakhpur today, Adityanath briefed media persons about the upcoming projects and their benefits for the people of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The assistant teachers were protesting over the recruitment issue in the government schools and were moving towards Chief Minister's residence.

Adityanath said his government has been imparting free coaching not only to students from SC/ST and minority communities, but also to those from general the category under 'Abhyudaya Yojana'.

Addressing a gathering after the inauguration or foundation laying of 86 development schemes worth more than Rs 316 crore, Adityanath said, "The inauguration of the AIIMS in Gorakhpur will be done next month. Since 2004 there has been a demand for setting up an AIIMS in Gorakhpur."

The UPTET scheduled to be held on Sunday was cancelled after a question paper for the exam was leaked, an officer announced shortly before the exam was to begin.
