Referring to the BJP's criticism of him for questioning Swaraj's UN speech, Tharoor said he felt a "bit rich" to be criticised by the ruling party.

"One can fully appreciate and welcome some of the things that Sushma ji said, but some other things were actually disappointing," Tharoor said.

Dismissing Pakistan's accusation of sabotaging dialogue process, Sushma Swaraj said that Pakistan was responsible for obstructing the process every time India took a step forward.

"Our neighbouring nation is not only skilled in spreading terrorism, but has also gained expertise in refusing their deeds," Swaraj said at UNGA.

On Friday, speaking at the SAARC meeting on the sidelines of UNGA, Swaraj said that an environment of peace and security in South Asia is essential for cooperation and economic development.

His remarks comes a day after Sushma Swaraj had refused to interact with him at the South Asian Association Regional Cooperation (SAARC) ministerial meeting and left after delivering her speech without staying on for his address.

Swaraj, who addressed the UNGA session last year as well, reached New York last Saturday and participated in several bilateral and multilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA including the SAARC and BRICS.

After making her statement in the SAARC meet, Sushma Swaraj left the venue and did not wait for Pakistan's Foreign Minister Qureshi to present his statement.

The Trump administration had last month announced that after carefully reviewing the issue it has decided not to make additional contributions to the United Nation Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).  

The two sides shared each other’s position about where they stand at this point of time.

Among other things, the two nations discussed US sanctions on Iran and the status of Iran nuclear deal with the European Union. 

Both Trump and Swaraj interacted during a high-level event on counter-narcotics hosted by the US President at the United Nations on Monday.  

Suhsma Swaraj's early engagements included a meeting Sunday with World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to discuss global health issues.

Swaraj is set to participate in various meetings and discussions on the sidelines of the General Assembly session throughout the week.

"Disappointed at the arrogant and negative response by India to my call for resumption of the peace dialogue," tweeted Khan.

The meeting between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj with her Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi will be the first such high-level engagement since suspension of dialogue between the two nations after the Pathankot air base terror attack in 2016.

"We are engaged in the matter," he said when asked about reports that Qureshi and Swaraj may hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the UNGA and whether both sides have formally approached each other.

Calling Sidhu an 'agent' of Pakistan, she said that the cricketer-turned-politician was being used as a puppet by the neighbouring country.

Sidhu, who was present at the swearing-in of his "friend" Imran Khan as the Pakistan Prime Minister on August 18 in Islamabad, has been claiming that he has been virtually instrumental in getting the Kartarpur corridor opened to devotees.

Sushma Swaraj's programme in Russia comes close on the heels of the first ever India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue here in which she, along with Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defence Secretary Jim Mattis participated.
