Bellary remained a Congress stronghold from 1952 to 2000, however, from 2004 to 2018, the seat was with the BJP. The saffron party lost it to Congress in 2018 bypolls but won it again in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Bansuri Swaraj, who appeared in India TV's Chunav Manch, is BJP's candidate from New Delhi constituency in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Polling in the national capital in all the seven seats will take place in the sixth phase on May 25.

Swaraj died at the age of 67. She was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi on August 6 after suffering a cardiac arrest, where she was declared dead. Swaraj was a prominent face of woman representation in Indian politics, Sushma Swaraj has also been a core member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
