Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday launched a blistering attack on the government on the state of the economy, saying signing the RCEP agreement will result in "untold hardship" for farmers, shopkeepers, and small enterprises.

There is rising intolerance in the country and a skewed vision of history is being imposed with falsehood, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said on Tuesday. She was addressing a gathering at a function here to confer the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration to Chipko Movement founder and environmentalist Chandi Prasad Bhatt.  

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday accused the Modi government of diluting the powers of the Information Commissioners through amendments to the RTI Act and termed it as a "final assault" to decimate the historic legislation.

A senior Congress leader, related to the development, said that the two leaders discussed the issues of alliance between the Congress and NCP along with regional parties opposed to the state's ruling BJP-Shiv Sena coalition.

According to a party leader, senior Delhi Congress leaders Narendra Nath, Ramakant Goswami, Mangat Ram Singhal and Kiran Walis had an over one-hour meeting with Sonia Gandhi at her residence. They took up the issue of new state party chief and new state in-charge of the Congress.

After months of squabble, AAP MLA Alka Lamba resigned from the party membership. Lamba quit the party today a tweet saying "its time to say goodbye".

In a five-page letter to Gandhi, the minister said he was "surprised" that the Congress president was opposing the move to set up new "temples of modern India" -- a term coined by Jawaharlal Nehru.

In an official release, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal said, "Congress President has approved the recommendation of the All India Congress Committee for revocation of the expulsion of Chaturvedi, ex-Minister, Maharashtra, from the party with immediate effect."
