Sonia Gandhi is an Indian politician of Italian descent. By way of her marriage to Rajiv Gandhi, she is a member of the Nehru–Gandhi family. She was a former president of the Congress party. Congress President Rahul Gandhi arrived in Goa to join his mother Sonia Gandhi to usher in the New Year, a party official said on Sunday.
Sonia, who has been skipping vacations as Congress chief preferring to look at party work, was seen in a relaxed mood, freely interacting with tourists and even cycling during her stay at the south Goa resort.
Moily acknowledged there are calls for her continuation in the position, but said Rahul Gandhi, who assumed charge as the Congress president earlier this month, is also capable of holding the post.
