The three-match ODI series between India and West Indies is locked at 1-1 and the decider is set to be played on August 1. The venue for the third and final ODI is Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad.

Talking about the decision to drop Hope, Cricket West Indies' chief selector Roger Harper said that he was not "at his best" in the longest format of the game for a while.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has struggled to even breach the 30-run mark in his four innings against England. His scores read 25, 7 16, 9 so far.

Despite being team's key batting mainstay in the ODIs, the 26-year-old from Barbados has scored just 1498 runs in 31 Tests at an average of 27.23. He has 3289 runs at 52.2 in 78 ODIs.

With his dismissal, Hope ended his 2019 ODI tally at 1345 runs (in 28 ODIs) which is the second-highest run tally by a West Indies batsman in a calendar year.

Shai Hope is currently third in the ODI run-getters' list this year with 1225 runs behind Virat Kohli (1292 runs) and Rohit Sharma (1268 runs).

Shai Hope shined for Windies in the final ODI in Lucknow as the side cruised to a five-wicket win over Afghanistan.

England and West Indies will play five ODIs between February 20 and March 2.
