Rajnath Singh is the senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has been the Defence Minister of India since 2019. Singh also served as the Union Home Minister in the Narendra Modi government from 2014 to 2019. Rajnath Singh was the president of the BJP twice from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2013 to 2014. He has been a Lok Sabha member from the Lucknow constituency of Uttar Pradesh for the last two terms. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Singh won the Lucknow seat by defeating Congress candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi with a margin of 2,72,749 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Singh retained the Lucknow constituency by defeating Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Poonam Shatrughan Sinha with a margin of 3,47,302 votes. Rajnath Singh also represented the Ghaziabad parliamentary seat from 2009 to 2014. Singh was the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister from 2000 to 2002 and also won the Haidergarh Assembly constituency twice in 2001 (bypoll) and 2002. He was also a member of Rajya Sabha from 1994 to 2001 and again from 2002 to 2008. Singh also served as the Union Cabinet Minister for Agriculture (2003-2004) and Road Transport and Highways (1999-2000) in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government. Rajnath Singh is again contesting from the Lucknow constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

"The decisive actions that the government has taken... 600 militants have been killed during the period," Union Minister Jitendra Singh said.
On his recent comment on the possibility of talks with Pakistan or the separatists for peace in Kashmir, he said the country has no aversion to dialogue.

The Union Home MInister lauded the armed forces for giving a "befitting reply" to terrorists.
"I have talked to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti several times and have asked my party workers to visit the place and take initiative to ensure justice to the victims, and thus normalise the situation," Rajnath Singh said.
Rajnath Singh lauded the forces for ensuring that no big terror incident has taken place in the hinterland, except in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The minister even urged all parties in the Lower House of Parliament to maintain peace in the aftermath of violence over Supreme Court order on SC/ST Act.
"There can be a debate on whether more work has been done or less, but no one can raise a question on the integrity and intention of the government," Rajnath said.
The minister's statement came days after the Bharatiya Janata Party suffered a double jolt as it was trounced in the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha by-polls for the Gorakhpur and Phulpur and in Bihar's Araria.
"I want to tell those who are trying to teach jihad to innocent Kashmiri youths that they should first learn the real concept of jihad in Islam," he said.
The home minister pointed out that incidents of serious crime take place because the police and citizens do not work together to prevent decay of social norms and social disorder.
Addressing CISF jawans and officers on the 49th raising day of the paramilitary force at its camp here, Singh said a cyber-security plan against such new age threats should not only be prepared but also strengthened from time to time.

Rajnath Singh said country's world-wide prestige has grown in the recent past and the young people need to work dedicatedly in the field of knowledge and science to ensure that no one can stop India from becoming a world leader.
