Rajnath Singh is the senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has been the Defence Minister of India since 2019. Singh also served as the Union Home Minister in the Narendra Modi government from 2014 to 2019. Rajnath Singh was the president of the BJP twice from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2013 to 2014. He has been a Lok Sabha member from the Lucknow constituency of Uttar Pradesh for the last two terms. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Singh won the Lucknow seat by defeating Congress candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi with a margin of 2,72,749 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Singh retained the Lucknow constituency by defeating Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Poonam Shatrughan Sinha with a margin of 3,47,302 votes. Rajnath Singh also represented the Ghaziabad parliamentary seat from 2009 to 2014. Singh was the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister from 2000 to 2002 and also won the Haidergarh Assembly constituency twice in 2001 (bypoll) and 2002. He was also a member of Rajya Sabha from 1994 to 2001 and again from 2002 to 2008. Singh also served as the Union Cabinet Minister for Agriculture (2003-2004) and Road Transport and Highways (1999-2000) in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government. Rajnath Singh is again contesting from the Lucknow constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

The members of the GoM are Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi, a home ministry official said.
After reviewing the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the home minister pointed out that the state has witnessed a a big shift as incidents of stone-pelting have come down and the recruitment of militants has also decreased.
“Heading to Srinagar on a day-long visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Shall review the security situation and important initiatives taken in the state,” Rajnath Singh tweeted before leaving the national capital.
The home minister will take stock of the overall situation after the conclusion of the municipal elections in the State.
On a two-day visit to the state, the home minister reviewed the situation on the border and assessed the progress in various infrastructure projects.
The home minister said NSG troopers were generally called "Better than the Rest", but he believed that the Black Cats were "Better than the Best".
Last year, the home minister had celebrated Dussehra at Joshimath in Uttarakhand along the Sino-Indian border.
Addressing the silver jubilee foundation day event of the National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi, Singh said that the human rights are not based on any religion.
"The civil aviation sector is highly sensitive and high profile in nature. It also gets worldwide attention when hit by any attack. Often these incidents have geopolitical ramifications," said Rajnath in Delhi.
The Union home minister further stressed that the time was right for global investors to make investments in India.

There were also discussions on central share under post matric and pre-matric scholarship schemes for the SCs/STs/OBCs and schemes for the modernisation of the state police forces, the official said.
