Rahul Gandhi is the Congress leader and has been representing the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency since 2019. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad seat by defeating Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate PP Suneer with a margin of 4,31,770 votes. However, Gandhi was defeated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Zubin Irani from his family's stronghold Amethi with a margin of 55,120 votes in the 2019 polls. Rahul Gandhi won three consecutive elections from Amethi in 2004, 2009 and 2014. He defeated Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidates Chandra Parkash Mishra Matiyari and Asheesh Shukla in the 2004 and 2009 polls respectively from Amethi. Rahul Gandhi again won the Amethi constituency in 2014 by defeating Smriti Zubin Irani with a margin of 1,07,903 votes. Gandhi was the president of the Congress party from 2017 to 2019.

Launching a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that the Congress president was rattled after his plan to influence the next Lok Sabha election with the help of Cambridge Analytica was “exposed”.
The war of words, started with Congress campaign #DeleteNaMoApp, heated up on Monday on both sides as Rahul Gandhi also tweeted further accusations.

"We are growing decently as an economy, but we are not creating jobs because those who have skills aren't getting access to finance and support," Gandhi said.
Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also rejected the Congress' claim that it had never used the services of Cambridge Analytica, and insisted that the opposition party and Gandhi did do it.

Expressing confidence that the ruling party would win the polls because of unity and hard work of its cadres, Gandhi requested the people to bless him with their support as they did to his grandmother.
Rahul Gandhi and his party have been attacking the prime minister and his government over the Doklam issue due to the Chinese build-up there.

BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao on Saturday night said the Congress is incapable of mounting a political challenge against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the Congress' plenary session here, Siddaramaiah said the upcoming state polls will work as a "big boost" and a "stepping stone" for the party ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
