Nirmala Sitharaman said that the Congress would be responsible if any disharmony is played out between now and the 2019 general elections.

"Our PM's 'no agenda' China visit, clearly had a 'Chinese hidden agenda' which is now unravelling. Never before in India's history has a PM capitulated to pressure from a foreign power, as this one has. This is BJP nationalism on full display," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

  Sinha, who took to Twitter to express his regret over the episode, said the Congress leader should join him in the debate in a civilised manner if the latter thought that his "personal conduct was disgusting". 

"In the meeting, we advised Rahul Gandhi to not talk about the Muslim community in particular as it will give others an opportunity to polarise him as a leader. He should rather talk about poverty and education."

According to sources, Muslim intellectuals advised Rahul to go back to the original principles of Congress.
