The BJP on Friday launched a sit-in demonstration in front of the office of state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) protesting against stray incidents of violence during and after the polls in Cooch Behar.

The Congress fared poorly in the last parliamentary elections and could win only seven of these 91 seats. Five of its seats came from the North-East where the BJP has considerably consolidated its position in the last five years. 

In a letter, three Congress leaders said that a laser was pointed at Rahul during his interaction with journalists after filing nomination for the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday.

The first phase of polling in 91 Lok Sabha constituencies across 18 states and two Union Territories was held on Thursday. Polling for Lok Sabha Elections 2019 will be held in seven phases. Votes will be counted on May 23. Along with 91 Lok Sabha seats, voting to elect a government in four states - Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha was also held.

"I am happy and I have been saying so for months that Hindustan’s PM has given the air force money to (industrialist) Anil Ambani, and the SC has accepted it. The SC is going to investigate it," he said.
