The Jharkhand CEO has been asked to submit a report to the Election Commission as soon as possible. The Election Commission's move comes after controversy erupted over Rahul Gandhi's 'Rape in India' remark, which he made in Jharkhand's Godda district last Thursday during a public rally.

Senior BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain on Sunday night said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had "insulted" his grandmother and late prime minister Indira Gandhi by his utterances on V D Savarkar.

A day after Rahul Gandhi's statement at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, Veer Savarkar's grandson Ranjit Savarkar said that the Gandhi scion must be charged under sedition law. He hit out at the Congress MP from Wayanad, for dragging the surname for his political rally.

He also attacked the Congress, saying it is no longer the party of freedom struggle but was reduced to a slave of a dynasty. Later, speaking to a private TV channel, he expressed hope that the Congress' ally in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena, would beat him (Gandhi) up with 'shoes' for the insult meted out to his grandfather.

Rahul courted controversy over his "rape in India" remark at an election rally in Godda, Jharkhand, which led to ruckus in Parliament. The BJP had sought apology from Rahul for making that statement.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh took to Twitter to attack Rahul Gandhi on Saturday for the statement he made during Bharat Bachao rally in the capital.

Rahul Gandhi said while addressing the Bharat Bachao rally, "I was asked to apologise in the Parliament yesterday by the BJP members. They tell me to apologise for the correct thing. I am not Rahul Savarkar, my name is Rahul Gandhi. I will never apologise for the truth. Neither will any party worker apologise."

The Congress party on Saturday will organise "Bharat Bachao Rally" at the Ramlila Maidan, which aims to hit out at the BJP-led Modi government over several issues of 'sluggish economy', rising unemployment, farmers' problems etc.

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi in Jharkhand had said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' initiative is like 'rape in India', an apparent reference to rising incidents of rape in the country.

Lashing out at Rahul Gandhi inside the Lok Sabha, Smriti Irani said: "This is the first time in the history of India that a man from Gandhi family has the audacity to insult women and call for their rape."

After being passed in the Lok Sabha, the Citizenship Amendment Bill will be taken up in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party, meanwhile, has exuded confidence of support by parties for the passage of the Bill.

Over 6,000 people took part in the rally addressed by Gandhi, who arrived here after winding up his three-day Wayanad constituency visit. "I will always be with you in fight against wrongdoings of this government," said Gandhi.

"The saddening and heart-wrenching death of the innocent daughter of Unnao, that has shamed humanity, has left me angered and stunned. Another daughter has lost her life while awaiting justice and security," Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is all set to return to lead the party and is likely to take over after the Delhi assembly polls early next year. 

The country's strength was respect for women, people of all religions, communities, different ideas. Every time you put a case against me I will speak of love. I will never forget you are standing with me," he said addressing front workers.

​BJP chief Amit Shah on Monday set a 2024 deadline for implementing the hugely divisive NRC across the country, asserting "each and every" infiltrator will be identified and expelled before the next general election.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday expressed shock over the rape and murder of a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad and said such "terrible, unprovoked violence" is beyond imagination.

Rahul and his team were initially averse to the party joining hands with the Shiv Sena, but agreed to back the Sena-led government after the common minimum programme (CMP) was finalised and all contentious issues were resolved.
