Opposition parties have decided to visit Jantar Mantar near the Parliament to meet farmers in a bid to express solidarity with them. Farmers are holding 'Kisan Sansad' at the Jantar Mantar to press for their demand to repeal the new farm laws.

Opposition parties on Tuesday put up a united show of strength at Rahul Gandhi's breakfast meeting with the Congress terming it as "historic" and a "trailer" ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. However, BSP, Akali, AAP leaders did not attend the meet.

The Opposition unity that was displayed at the strategy meeting and protest called by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will go all the way to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, said a Congress leader.

After driving a tractor to Parliament, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on August 3 rode a bicycle to Parliament to protest against the rising prices of fuel and cooking gas. The leaders of 15 parties, including the Trinamool Congress, were present at today's meeting. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), however, skipped it. After the meeting, Gandhi and other opposition leaders cycled to Parliament to highlight the issue of high fuel prices.

While parties such as the Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena, NCP and RJD, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party was conspicuous by its absence. The AAP has always stayed away from opposition strategy meetings in Parliament, especially those led by the Congress. Unlike in the past, AAP had been invited for this meeting but it chose to stay away.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is all set to lead another meeting of opposition leaders this morning amid disruptions and protests in parliament over the Pegasus snooping row, the handling of the pandemic, farmers' agitation, among other issues. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the Modi government of using Pegasus spyware against the country's institutions. Addressing the media outside at Vijay Chowk near Parliament, Rahul said that the government is wrongly accusing the opposition of not allowing the Parliament to function. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has "inserted a weapon in the phones" of the country's citizens and called it an act of treason.
