Rahul Gandhi is the Congress leader and has been representing the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency since 2019. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad seat by defeating Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate PP Suneer with a margin of 4,31,770 votes. However, Gandhi was defeated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Zubin Irani from his family's stronghold Amethi with a margin of 55,120 votes in the 2019 polls. Rahul Gandhi won three consecutive elections from Amethi in 2004, 2009 and 2014. He defeated Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidates Chandra Parkash Mishra Matiyari and Asheesh Shukla in the 2004 and 2009 polls respectively from Amethi. Rahul Gandhi again won the Amethi constituency in 2014 by defeating Smriti Zubin Irani with a margin of 1,07,903 votes. Gandhi was the president of the Congress party from 2017 to 2019.

Pegging his confidence on opposition unity, Gandhi said far from the BJP winning the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, even Modi might lose from Varanasi if his party, the SP and the BSP were united against him.
The Congress president said, "the fact of the matter is between Mr Amit Shah and Mr Modi, they are convinced, there are only two human beings in this country. That's all, that's the reality."
The Congress had also alleged that the government has brought the aircraft at thrice the price that the UPA regime had negotiated with the French company.
Amit Shah’s tweet comes a day after PM Modi accused the opposition parties of politicising the legacy of Dalit icon Dr BR Ambedkar. The prime minister went on to say that no government had honoured Ambedkar like his government did.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi today hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "not uttering a word" on the alleged atrocities on Dalits and tribals and "dilution" of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
On April 3, the Congress president would meet people at Bus Stand Chowk and address a public gathering in Shivamogga. He will then visit Honnalli, Harihara and Bathi towns in Davangere district.
Reacting to the development, the Congress party said it would keep raising voice against government's policies and its "failure" to check corruption.
This comes a day after the Congress president said the country’s chowkidar is “weak” and there is “leak” in everything.
“How many leaks? Data leak! Aadhar leak! SSC Exam leak! Election date leak! CBSE papers leak! “There is a leak in everything, the ‘chowkidar’ is weak,” Gandhi said in a tweet that was in both Hindi and English.
"Kya Baat hai @RahulGandhi Ji.. Congress ka Haath, Cambridge Analytica ke Saath!" Smriti Irani tweeted.
The Congress president's comments came after China on Monday asserted that Doklam belongs to it and India should have "learnt lessons" from the stand-off last year.
Former union minister Praful Patel was also present in the meeting.
The Congress had to take down its ‘WithINC' mobile app after the BJP alleged that the party had shared user data with a Singapore-based firm from its official app.
Launching a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said that the Congress president was rattled after his plan to influence the next Lok Sabha election with the help of Cambridge Analytica was “exposed”.
The war of words, started with Congress campaign #DeleteNaMoApp, heated up on Monday on both sides as Rahul Gandhi also tweeted further accusations.
"Rahul Gandhi is so rattled by the Cambridge Analyitca expose that he daily tries to divert attention from it, yesterday it was the judiciary and today it is Namo App," BJP said.
"We are growing decently as an economy, but we are not creating jobs because those who have skills aren't getting access to finance and support," Gandhi said.
Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also rejected the Congress' claim that it had never used the services of Cambridge Analytica, and insisted that the opposition party and Gandhi did do it.
"Problem: 39 Indians dead; Govt on the mat, caught lying. Solution: Invent story on Congress & Data Theft. Result: Media networks bite bait; 39 Indians vanish from radar. Problem solved," Gandhi tweeted on Thursday.
