Continuing his tirade against the PM, the Congress leader said that Modi was running away from debate in Parliament over issues like Rafale jet deal with France.

Party workers took to the streets in parts of the state to protest the selection of candidates, alleging nepotism as Congress has retained 103 of its 122 candidates instead of giving preference to new faces.

The special NIA court's verdict gave the ruling BJP ample ammunition to target the Congress which headed the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in 2007. The ruling party came out all guns blazing at the Congress demanding an apology from the party leadership for 'defaming' Hindus.

"Show me a video or a sound clip where Rahul Gandhi or any other Congress functionary is seen using the term ‘Bhagva aatankwad' (saffron terror). There is no such thing as saffron terror," Congress Spokesman P.L. Punia said.

Gandhi tweeted that in 2016, a total of 19,675 rapes of minors were reported and called it shameful.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said the Congress should apologise for using terms like 'Hindu terror' and 'saffron terror'. 

The Congress president represents Amethi in Lok Sabha while his mother Sonia Gandhi is Lok Sabha MP from Raebareli.

Amethi is represented by Gandhi in Parliament, while his mother and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the MP from Raebareli.   

"I want to assure the country that no culprit will be spared, complete justice will be done. Our daughters will definitely get justice," said PM Modi.

Amid sloganeering against the Modi-led BJP government, the Gandhi scion said the women of the country are afraid to go out today and the government must ensure their safety and help them live in peace.

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi organised a candlelight march at New Delhi's India Gate for justice in Kathua and Unnao rape cases on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

"How can anyone protect the culprits of such evil? What happened to the girl at Kathua is a crime against humanity. It cannot go unpunished," Gandhi said in a tweet.

The Congress president also posted a purported video in which the woman's father is seen speaking against the BJP MLA.  

The BJP has demanded an apology from Congress president Rahul Gandhi for compromising private data of laksh of Indians with UK-based firm Cambridge Analytica to manipulate elections.

The couple had earlier faced flak on account of a Dalit woman marrying a Kashmiri Muslim. But, shunning all inter-faith taboos, the two went on to solemnise their relationship.   

Speaking to reporters at Rajghat, where he led the Congress's nationwide fast, Gandhi said the grand old party will defeat the BJP-led NDA in the 2019 general election.

BJP spokesperson Anil Baluni said Rahul Gandhi should not worry about Modi and should rather be concerned about his and Sonia Gandhi's electoral fate in 2019.
