Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held five rallies. Three took place in Uttar Pradesh (Azamgarh, Jaunpur and Prayagraj). In West Bengal, PM Modi held two rallies in Bankura and Parulia. 

A resident said: "Calling Prime Minister 'chor' has hurt the dignity of the nation. We don't want the person to step into our village, so we have put these posters."

Manoj Kashyap of Shahgarh in Amethi has written that he was 'traumatised' by the statements of the Prime Minister against late Rajiv Gandhi.

"Prima facie, we did not figure out any literal violation of MCC as given in the Election Commission of India instructions," the poll watchdog said, in a statement on Tuesday. 

The constituency has the highest concentration of Poorvanchalis, Muslims and migrants from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, who play a decisive role during elections.

"I apologised to the Supreme Court as the matter is sub judice. Any comment on the matter was unwarranted. Neither have I apologised to the PM nor the BJP," Rahul Gandhi said in a press conference in New Delhi.
